Chest Pain = "Costochondritis"

It seems I always have something wrong with me. Seriously. Whether it be a migraine, a sinus infection, food poisoning, or who knows what else, It seems to be a never-ending battle. And people think I make this stuff up! Not hardly.

I started having pretty bad chest pains about a week ago. The pain was getting so "reliable" that I felt (and so did my hubby) I needed to see a Dr. I didn't automatically think, "Oh my gah, I'm having a heart attack!", but in all seriousness the pain was NOT subsiding and was in fact getting worse. I knew it was not stress related - I've had heart palpitations before due to stress and THIS was not THAT. So, to the Dr. I went... fortunately for me, they had an opening same day!

After a few questions and a quick exam it was pretty clear to my Dr. that I had 'costochondritis". When she said it, the first thing I said was, "Say huh?"a. :) I'm taking a nursing class and I hadn't heard of this (yet), so as far as I knew she was telling me I was really having a heart attack!! But, she then explained what it was. Costochondritis is inflammation of the cartilage/ligaments in-between your ribs. It's usually caused by straining your chest walls by excessive coughing (which I haven't had) or excessive sneezing (which I have - DAMN ALLERGIES!). It can also be caused by a blow to the chest via a sports injury, which to the best of my knowledge I haven't been "injured". I wonder If my husband has been beating me up in my sleep? Hmmm... ;) There isn't much that can be done for this awful, atrocious pain other than rest, no lifting, no excessive laughing, avoiding yawns, keep breathing under control, etc. So basically, be a lazy slug with no sense of humor. Perfect. Honestly though, the more I talk and laugh, the more it hurts. Bad. Once it starts to hurt it's hard to get it stop hurting. It should go away on its own after a couple of weeks. Good grief I hope so!

I'm no baby, but this is a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. My Dr. said a lot of people really think they're having a heart attack when they have costochondritis.

At least I get to have my hubby wait on me hand & foot! Nah, I wouldn't take advantage of him that way... or would I? ;)

Have you ever had costochondritis? Did it go away with rest? Tell me your story and help ME get through this!

Hubby's Birthday Breakfast & "The Card"

During the month of April I have A LOT of birthdays to remember... countless friends, my brother's, my nephew's, and also my HUSBAND'S! Last year, and sadly the year before, I didn't do much for his birthday. Now, this is no huge deal as my husband isn't the attention wanting type, but still, I knew I was going to do something for him this year. I had an idea of what I wanted to do for him last week, but honestly nothing was finalized until late this past week. I was going to keep it a secret. I was ONLY  going to tell him that we WERE doing something, but not be too specific. He was like a kid all week: "What is it?"  "Will you tell me?" "Can you give me a hint?" Thought he didn't like surprises?! Yeah RIGHT! ;) I was actually able to keep the surprise ALL week, leading all the way up to driving in front of where we were going. I was impressed...with myself!

You see, I'm not the best at keeping secrets & surprises. A family secret or a friend's secret, yes... but the gift, party, friendly secret? No. So, again, I was impressed!

The birthday festivities actually started early Saturday morning by cooking the birthday boy a very hearty breakfast, per HIS request! I woke up about an hour before him to start cooking.

Slasher Movie Marathon!

OK, so most everyone knows how long my husband & I have been together, but during our drive to the beach last weekend I mentioned something that he just didn't want to believe. As we were having a TON of different conversations in our 2.5 hour drive the topic of scary movies came up. (Don't ask me how!) We were talking about 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', 'Friday the 13th', & 'Halloween' specifically. After about 2 minutes it was realized (by me) that I have NEVER seen all of these movies! *GASP* I couldn't believe that I had never seen any of the classics all the way through - NONE of them! Now, I DO know the characters: Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers, but that's the extent of it!

So, what does that all mean?! Well, a "Slasher Movie" Marathon of course!

Knowing that I had the entire following week from our beach trip OFF from work, I knew I had the time.  Yay! We have Blockbuster Online so we immediately went to our queue to start ordering the movies. After being a little impatient, we just decided to go to the local Blockbuster and rent every Freddy movie they had! We came home with 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4', plus the newest 'Halloween II' by Rob Zombie, just for the heck of it! We'd already seen the first of the Rob Zombie 'Halloween' remakes.

Here's the scene...

Because it was SO bright outside, and knowing that you just can't watch scary movies in bright lighting, we drew the curtains CLOSED! We sat on our butts and watched, and watched, and watched some more... after the next few days we had ended up seeing the first 4 of the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' movies, the first 5 of the 'Friday the 13th' movies, and the first 2 (Original) 'Halloween' movies! Talk about MOVIES!!!!!

At least NOW I can say I've seen them! I feel like I was missing out! And, we still have more to go! Who knew there were SOOOOO many?! We'll get there eventually!

And yes, we are HUGE movie buffs. You could say it's our most favorite thing to do together.

What I've Realized

We've made it to the beach. We actually got here around 12pm today. They didn't have our room ready just yet - were we going to let it ruin our trip? No. We sat by the oceanfront bar and had a few drinks, took some pictures, talked with other patrons, etc. We had a great time. We then "checked in". The room couldn't have been any better - it was perfect. Oceanfront. Simply said. I've never stayed in an oceanfront room before.

This is exactly what we needed.

We needed to get away.

We needed to escape reality, even for just a bit.

We needed to just be us.

We are. Now.

This place is beautiful. It's directly on the ocean. I can hear the swells. I'm sitting on the balcony, feeling emotions I've never felt before - feelings of gratitude for what I have, appreciating what I've been given, and feeling truly grateful for the world around me.

This is what I needed.

This is what WE needed.

Wrightsville Beach, Here we come!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in a while - its been crazy busy and I've honestly just not been in "the mood". But, here I am to share that the hubs and I are very excited to be going to the beach tomorrow!!! We only live about 2 hours from Wrightsville Beach and even after 7 years of living here, we've never been! So, over the Easter Holiday... we're going! We'll only stay one-night, but hey... it's something! I can't wait to walk around the beach, ride bikes, peruse downtown Wilmington, etc.  The weather forecast couldn't be any more perfect - 80's and SUNNY! Wahoo!

My office is closed tomorrow in observance of the Easter holiday, so first thing tomorrow morning... we're OFF! I'm actually taking off ALL next week too. I can't wait. Nothing really big planned, but I do plan to relax, paint, write, study for school, relax, and maybe some yard work. I can see it now... I won't want to come back! ;)

I will of course be taking a LOT of pictures while in Wrightsville Beach, so stay tuned! I'll try not to be a stranger...

Enjoy the holiday everyone!
