The Month of March

Remember me? Sorry I've been away for so long! I can't believe it's been almost a full month since my last post. Things have been very, very hectic for me lately, but I'm feeling more relaxed and balanced now.

So, what have I been up to? Well, ALOT! For starters, you may remember me posting several weeks back that we were moving. We've been in our new home for a little over three weeks now and we couldn't be happier. We ♥ the area and to live so close to where I work has been a long overdue treat for me. We're mostly settled in but have a ways to go on certain things, like... the ever painful area of yardwork. You see, I have to muster the strength and know-how to handle the yardwork on my own as Rich is in school, or working, or at a volunteer shift, or on a clinical duty about a total of 90+ hours a week... so let's just say he's unavailable; So, unless I want to live in an overgrown wilderness, I persevered. After spending an entire weekend raking, mowing, pruning, bagging, weeding, etc. to the point of sheer exhaustion and feeling like I had the snot beat out of me, I realized I needed to ask for help. ALOT of help. I asked a co-worker/friend of mine if her son can help me one weekend and I was thrilled when he agreed. Dare I say I will now have a "sexy yard boy"? He IS legal... I checked! ;) Just to give you all some idea of exactly how MUCH I did on my own, I have posted evidence.
My Yard "Goat" :-)
It is obvious to us that Harley & Murphy LOVE their new yard. It's honestly hard to get them back IN the house! That's what makes this entire last couple of stressful months worth it, just to see how happy it makes them to have an actual yard to play in.

The yard still has a WAYS to go, but it's coming along. It'll take me awhile for sure, but just you wait... it's going to look gorgeous in no time! :)

What else? Oh yeah, I bought a "newsed" car. NO car payments! Holla! Never again will we EVER have more than one car payment, and I'd be happy as a clam if we didn't even have one! I found an excellent deal on a pristine '97 Acura 3.5RL. I LOVE it! Yeah, sure... it's old, but it doesn't look it at ALL and it drives great! It's fully loaded and has more bells & whistles than I've ever had on any other car. I joke saying that it still has "street cred", because to me, it looks like other luxury sedans on the road today! I don't need the latest greatest car to feel cool... no ma'am... no sir. My 14 year old car is just fine! :-)

As some of you may know, I am on the Board of Directors with my local chapter of the American Red Cross. It's a role I am most proud to be a part of. I am largely active in my role with our chapter and just a few weeks ago I was asked to be the keynote speaker for a Red Cross event! I was honored just to be asked, but even more nervous as I have NEVER given a professional speech before. I have no issue with speaking in front of crowds at all - I actually do it all the time at work, but never in a large setting with people I'm unfamiliar with. PLUS, this was to be a speech atleast 6 minutes long! YIKES! After a week of planning, my speech was done. After a few tweaks here and there, I was ready. And, yes... I was extremely nervous the night of, BUT after about the first couple seconds at the podium I was at ease. I don't think I did my absolute best, but I received alot of compliments for my effort and was even asked by the Regional Director of the Triangle Red Cross to consider being on the speakers bureau for the Red Cross! Wow. I was just glad to have my first professional speech behind me! I will gladly do others. I made alot of eye contact with the audience. I was actually scared that I would not be able to look down to read, look up, look down, look up again, etc. Phew... success! (And yes, being the dork that I am, I framed the press release my office did for me as a memento!)

Anything else? I'm sure there is but I've kept you long enough, right? :)

I will post more, and more often... I promise! LOTS of new, exciting things to come!

Stay tuned!

Cheers.
